The Office of Technology Evaluation is the focal point within the U.S. Department of Commerce for analyzing the capabilities of the U.S. industrial base to support the national defense and the impact of export controls on U.S. interests. Programs include: • Conducting surveys and assessments of defense-related technologies and industries; • Monitoring economic and trade issues vital to the industrial base; • Partnering with defense and civilian federal agencies, industry associations, state governments, and universities; • Benchmarking industry performance and raising awareness of diminishing manufacturing and R&D capabilities; • Gauging the effect of the dual-use export control system on the economy.
