PowerAmerica, the Next Generation Power Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute, is charged with reinvigorating power electronics manufacturing in the United States through a focus on wide bandgap semiconductors made with silicon carbide and gallium nitride. These devices are used to power an array of products and systems, including electric motors, the power grid, electric vehicles, wind turbine generators, and military defense systems, enabling these things to be smaller, lighter and more efficient. PowerAmerica is a member of Manufacturing USA, coordinated by the federal Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office in the Department of Commerce. We are funded through the Department of Energy, N.C. State University, and industry partners.
